The traditional Accounting 'Practice' model is outdated. Your clients do not want an accountant who is just an order taker. If you want to be that firm, you need to read 'Accounting Practices Don't Add Up' to learn how. In this book, Rob Nixon reveals how he helps accounting firms succeed. As public accountants we think we are God's gift to business, but in fact as a profession we tend to be weak at running our business. Rob has a great understanding of the stereotypical practice and comes at this in a direct, easy to read action plan. Listen to what your client's wants and needs, process everything by way of the client's perspective; in other words make your firm culture client focused not firm focused. Then run your firm as a business not a practice.

Accounting Practices Don't Add Up! Why they don't and what to do about it Rob Nixon 9781921787355 Books Reviews

Rob's book is a must read for accountants. For many years, Rob has been a leading consultant to the accounting profession and he has helped countless accountants improve their own and their clients' businesses. His no holds bar approach might shock you, but everything he recommends in this book is derived from strategies that have actually been implemented by accountants. The book is also immensely readable. Several people have told me they got through it in one sitting. One accountant said he would not recommmend the book to others because he wanted to keep his unfair advantage to himself!

If you are serious about growing your accounting firm and better positioning yourself to help your clients achieve their goals, you should read this book.
I've been involved in the Accounting profession for 30 years and for most of that time I, and the firms I worked for, were doing it all wrong. Many firms are still doing it the wrong way today.

Who knows how much money we left on the table because we were stuck in the rut of doing things as they had always been done; based on inputs and time. It's totally wrong, inefficient and unethical.

Rob has been a great influencer and leader in helping me realise this and to change my ways, from a practice dictated to by clients and tradition to a business run on my terms, with the clients I want to work with and with fees based on objectives, measures and value.

In his book Rob navigates the way for Accountants to transition from the old to the new; from the profitable to the extremely profitable; and from the sometimes mundane to the creative, enjoyable and satisfying.
Thank you for writing this book. It was worth my time. The information from it has been helpful to me and I was able to improve my profit margins as well as change from time based to value based services.
The author presents an invaluable approach to providing superior service to clients. Why aren't CPA firms already doing this? Changing our methodologies and practices is critical to differentiate ourselves from competition and succeed for years to come.

Thanks for a great read and for an awesome reference manual for our practice.
Simple read. Straight forward. Focused effort to helping firms get their act together.

This book bolster the fact that firms need a plan to be successful.
