My 7 year old son is on the Feingold diet and this book is spot on with the descriptive words Gordy uses. The illustrations are beautiful and I think any child on any type of restrictive diet could relate to this book. My son has been very bummed lately that he has a special list we have to go by. However, I believe this book has shown him he's not alone in the struggle with food intolerances. Right after the book arrived (we were having an especially rough day), I took my son into his room, away from his other brothers, and read it to him. He sat quietly and listened and I got choked up a couple times, knowing how much of a struggle it is for him. This was $8.xx well spent. I would have gladly paid double!Product details

Love, love, love this book! It gave my 4 1/2 year old words to his feelings. He has many food allergies and gets rashes, but also gets the behavioral and emotional reactions and doesn't always understand why. I loved that this book never mentions a specific allergy or disease so it is very general. It does mention a few foods by name, which didn't necessarily coincide with our food issues. Like lollipops- my son can't have your average lollipop, but loves Yummy Earth Organic ones (dye-free, food allergy friendly). And I can make him a chocolate cake that is free from eggs, milk, wheat, and all of his other allergens. It would be hard to write a book like this without naming ANY specific foods so still gets 5 stars from our family!
This book was great for helping my son understand why he's on a "magic diet" and what foods that aren't on the "magic diet" are bad for him. I sent it to his school teacher and she thought it was helpful to read to my son's peers so that they could also understand. Highly recommended.
Excellent book! My daughter has Prader-Willi Syndrome and this children's book is amazingly the best way to get her diet explained to stubborn relatives!

He is still a little too young to understand but the book is well written. I love that it shows all the sweets that he is not able to eat. It just puts them right out there and talks about the decision to say no.
I bought this book because my 4yo son is on a special diet to control seizures. He really loved it, and identified with how some food makes him feel icky and other food makes him feel good. I think we'll see him more able to communicate how he is feeling, and this helps him understand the power of choices. The inclusion of Halloween and other holidays in this book it's genius because those are stressful times!
My daughter loves this story! It helps her understand why she can't have certain things in a language she can understand. Now if we tell her she can't have something, she usually responds with, 'It will wake up the monster inside me.'
Before this book it was a lot harder for her to understand why her friends could eat something, yet she couldn't. So glad I found this book, it really helps my daughter know she's not alone and there is a reason she can't have certain things.
